| Kaminski Fine Art Weekend a Smashing Success
(openPR) - (Beverly, MA) - Kaminski Auction's Spring Fine Art Weekend was an outstanding success. This first time event, held in the ballroom of the Sheraton Colonial Hotel in Wakefield, attracted crowds of enthusiastic collectors who enjoyed a weekend of excitement and entertainment. Kaminski Fine Art Director, John Raimo, offered a collection of paintings and fine prints that generated both enthusiasm and strong prices, with sales totaling $331,500. Day two featured an elegant Fine Arts Salon that developed considerable pre and post-sale interest. This unique combination of tradition and elegance organized by Diane Gage, special events liaison for Kaminski Auctions, concluded the stunning weekend. Several pieces underscored the success of the auction. Of particular note was "Young Woman with Basket of Fruit," by noted French Expressionist painter Jules Pascin.

Jeweler M. Fabrikant & Sons seeks approval to auction assets
WASHINGTON (AP) - Diamond wholesaler M. Fabrikant & Sons Inc. has asked a judge for permission to begin enticing bidders for an auction of its assets slated for early May. The request, filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan on Tuesday, solidifies the company's earlier assertions that it may liquidate rather than reorganize. Under the auction plan, privately held M. Fabrikant would sell all its assets, including inventory, accounts and intellectual property. It would then file a liquidation plan with the court. Under the proposed auction rules, any stalking-horse, or lead bidder, would be offered payment for fees and costs worth up to 2 percent of the bid or $200,000 (euro147,000), if the offer is lost at auction. The judge overseeing the jewelry company's bankruptcy case will decide whether to approve the rules at a hearing on April 26. M.
Putting the right options on your car can impact used values
Motorists should take more care with the options they fit to their new car as making the right decision could improve used values by hundreds of pounds according to a Manheim Auctions survey. Worryingly, making the wrong decision can cost drivers literally thousands. Manheim, which has 19 auction sites across the UK, quizzed nearly 100 of its top used car buyers for their views on the impact of optional extras on the second hand values of cars in the Family, Compact Executive and Executive car sectors. Desirable options, now expected on virtually all types of car include leather, metallic paint and a decent sound system. Satellite Navigation is increasingly sought after and healthy premiums are paid for cars with this as a factory fitted option. Not surprisingly it's the luxury cars in the Executive sector which are most sensitive to the right specification.
Foreclosures soar in county
Washtenaw County homeowners are facing foreclosures in record numbers, the result of a weak economy, a glutted housing market, and adjustable rate mortgages that have bit homeowners hard as interest rates jumped. "I used to do five or six foreclosures a week. Now I do 19 to 30,'' said Special Deputy Jimmy Moore, who auctions off mortgage foreclosures every week at the Washtenaw County Courthouse. Experts say the increase in foreclosures has a broader impact because it contributes to the drop in home prices and puts a dent in local tax revenues. Moore, who runs the civil division of the sheriff's department, says the increase he noticed a year ago has gotten steadily worse. The number of evictions from rental properties in the county has skyrocketed as well.
