Elton John And Simon Cowell Sign Up To Help Sick Animals
Rock legends, sporting heroes and pop stars autographs are all up for grabs in aid of veterinary charity PDSA. So if you fancy getting your paws on the signatures of Sir Elton John (pictured), or everyone's favourite Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, or Greased Lightnin' babe Holly Willoughby, then log on to eBay and get bidding! The auction coincides with the start of eBay's animal campaign, encouraging people to either sell items they no longer need and donate a percentage of the sale to their chosen animal charity, or bid on items being sold. Funds raised for PDSA will help the veterinary charity provide free veterinary treatment for sick and injured pets. PDSA so relies on the generosity of the public to funds its PetAid services, which cost more than 41 million every year - and is counting on your bids to help keep tails wagging across the UK! So what are you waiting for? Log on to PDSA's website and follow the links through to the auction site.
Sympathy about marital split is ploy for dirt
That information could make them feel divided in their loyalties, guilty by association, or ashamed. Acquaintances need no further explanation than, "I appreciate your interest, but I've moved on and no longer want to talk about it." You might add, "These are deeply personal issues." Forget the sympathy factor. People who aren't that close to you are digging for dirt or comparisons to their own life. As for their advice, thank them but say you've already worked things out in the way you think best. Then change the subject. Q: I'm 18, and have been with my boyfriend for five months. I've always been more independent; but my little free time is dedicated to him. However, he has much more free time, which gives him more time to sulk when I'm not around. He's still in school, takes on no part-time job (although I've suggested it many times) and rarely goes out with other guys.
Cook Library to host author Caroline Preston and silent auction
Caroline Preston, author of the popular new novel "Gatsby's Girl," will be making a special appearance for Cook Memorial Public Library District patrons on April 19. "Gatsby's Girl" is based on the life of Lake Forest native Ginevra King, F. Scott Fitzgerald's first love and inspiration for "The Great Gatsby"'s Daisy Buchanan. Fitzgerald met the 16-year-old socialite at a dance in 1915 and wooed her with dozens of love letters. After a disastrous visit to Lake Forest, she threw him over, and Fitzgerald later cast her as a cold-hearted flirt in many of his stories and novels. "The romance between Ginevra and F. Scott Fitzgerald is based on actual events, but the rest of the story is my invention," said Preston. "Fitzgerald was a fanatical record keeper. His letters, scrapbooks and diaries were a wonderful source of information for my novel." The evening will begin at 6 p.m.
