| Top tourism awards invite online bids
APPLICATIONS for Scotland's top tourism awards are going online for the first time, making it easier and more environmentally friendly for businesses to enter. The Scottish Thistle Awards, which honour tourism firms, were launched this week at Scotland's biggest travel trade fair, VisitScotland's Expo in Edinburgh. VisitScotland chief executive Phillip Riddle said: "Online applications and judging will help us contribute to making Scotland a greener destination." There are ten categories this year and businesses can enter as many as are applicable to their individual achievements. The closing date for entries is June 7. The finalists will be announced in September, with the overall winners announced at an awards ceremony and dinner in October.
Bob Perani part of group bidding for Generals
Perani told The Journal on Saturday night that he is part of a group that has reached an agreement to purchase the United Hockey League club from owner Khaled M. Shukairy. How much of the club they control has yet to be decided. "There is a deal," Perani said between the second and third periods of the Generals' playoff Game 6 with the Kalamazoo Wings. "I've guaranteed certain things. We've got some things to work out. I'm excited. I think we'll sell a lot of tickets through businesses. "We have to have people feel they can come down here and get their money's worth and be entertained." Perani said the five other individuals who could be part of the ownership group include Chuck Glasscock, one of his vice presidents at Perani's Hockey World, which is the largest independent distributor of hockey equipment in the world.

A source told National Enquirer magazine: "The auction was very heated. Both actors just went up and up and up." Bidding for the 32-inch-long skull began at $100,000 but Cage beat DiCaprio eventually with a final bid of $276,000. The 'Ghost Rider' star already owns a human skull which he has nicknamed Vince. .
