| Why Does eBay Want StumbleUpon? To Promote Its Auctions
At first it didn't quite make sense to me why eBay would want to acquire StumbleUpon. eBay does auctions and sales. StumbleUpon does random entertainment. At least, that's the way I used the two sites. But then, of course, I remembered that StumbleUpon is basically just a huge database full of associated interests. It's kinda like Amazon. People who liked X also liked Y. Deploy that technology on eBay, and suddenly your users find all sorts of stuff for sale they never knew about. I imagine somewhere inside eBay there's a chart showing that a huge percentage of their site is basically untrafficked. StumbleUpon, if deployed correctly, would help. .
Patent auctions generate big sales
An innovativeChicago intellectual property firm is creating a live auction marketplace, which is rare in an age where many companies are shifting their business online. More than 200 attended Ocean Tomo Auctions LLCs auction Thursday at the Union League Club of Chicago. It was the third such event hosted by Ocean Tomo. This is like the Christies or Sothebys of patent auctions, said George Kelakos of Kelakos Advisors LLC. Opening bids ranged from $10,000 to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Bids were solicited in at least $5,000 increments. The main advantage of the auction is simply that it is one-stop shopping for patents, said Bruce Lehman, former head of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. There really isnt any other place you can go to get a wide variety of patents.
Flags Hold Silent Auction for Black Jerseys
(PORT HURON, MICH.) - Through the end of the playoffs, the Port Huron Flags will have their game-worn black jerseys available for purchase in a silent auction, with multiple venues for fans to place their bids. Via the website, www.porthuronflags.net, the fan-favorite black jerseys are available to view, listed with current high bids. Interested parties may submit their maximum price online or by calling Lorraine Lixey at (810) 982-FLAG. Additionally, during all home playoff games, the bid lists will be available at the merchandise table. If a jersey's highest maximum internet bid is eclipsed with a live bid during a game, the online list will be appropriately updated at the conclusion of the game. Upon final completion of the post-season, the team will host a Season's End Event, with date and time to be determined.
GSPC to call bids for stake sale - source
MUMBAI (Reuters) - Gujarat State Petroleum Corp. (GSPC) will invite formal bids for selling a stake in its block off the country's east coast, a company source said on Thursday. The bidding will be open to all interested parties and not to just the four firms it had shortlisted in August last year, the official said. "This is going to be a formal invitation of bids," he said. "The situation has changed as we explore more and people are keen to know about the wells." The block in India's prolific Krishna Godavari basin is expected to hold reserves of about 20 trillion cubic feet of gas. The company has also found oil in it. The source declined to give details of new data, but said GSPC would share them with potential bidders. "Everybody who wants to evaluate the latest status will be getting the well data based on which they can make their offers," he said.
