PAINTINGS by the most significant contemporary Greek artists will be offered at auction by Evangelos Kapopoulos Auction House of Greece and Nicosias Alpha Gallery at their annual Spring Auction this week. The auction, on Wednesday at the Hilton in Nicosia, will offer upwards of 90 artworks, mostly by living Greek artists, as well as several prominent modern European artists. The selection will also include works by a number of young promising Greek artists. Among the major artists whose works are represented are: Christoforou, Arman, Prassinos, Fassianos, Mytaras, Stephanou, Stathopoulos, Sperantzas, Carras, Valirakis, Pantaleon, Manolides, Droungas, Zouni, Pavlos, Sorongas and Samios. Director of the Alpha Gallery, James Christoforou told the Mail that there would also be a few sculptures and small Plexiglas constructions up for sale.
India bids for Asiad 2014
India and South Korea are making one last attempt to outbid each other as the Olympic Council of Asia's General Assembly meet today ( April 17) to decide the host of the 2014 Asian Games. The 45-member OCA, headed by Council President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, will announce their decision tomorrow (April 18) after the conclusion of its two-day general assembly. South Korea's Incheon and Delhi are in fray to win the bid for the games but India sounded confident of bringing back the Asiad after a long gap of 32 years. Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi said, "We are doing our canvassing very well. Many Asian countries are backing us. The next 24-hours will be crucial. We are noting what they are doing and we will do everything needed at the floor tomorrow," .

TCGL invites global bids for sale of properties
Ahmedabad, April 11: In order to provide a thrust to the tourism industry in the State, the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd (TCGL) has invited global bids from Indian companies, overseas corporate bodies and eligible foreign companies for sale of its properties located in prime tourist locations in Gujarat. This follows the steps taken by the State Government to improve the tourism industry in the state. These measures include setting up of Gujarat Tourism Council headed by the Chief Minister, declaration of Hotel Investment Incentive Scheme, introduction of Heritage Hotels Policy, Eco Tourism Policy and Medical Tourism Policy, reduction in Entertainment Tax from 55 per cent to 25 re cent, reduction and restructuring of luxury tax and reduction of Value Added Tax on F&B from 12.50 per cent to 4 per cent.
