CMC Bids for Croation Mill

Commercial Metals International, a subsidiary of Commercial Metals Co., is seeking to acquire "Zeljezara Split" d.d. Kastel Sucurac (Split) from the Croatian Privatization Fund. Split is an electric arc furnace steel reinforcing bar mill with a wire mesh facility. The bid is around $28 million, which does not include additional working capital requirements for increasing production levels.

This is the second of Croatia's two operating steel mills for which CMI has submitted a purchase offer. Earlier this year, CMC announced that CMI had submitted a bid for the Valjaonica Cijevi Sisak pipe mill. However, bids for that mill were rejected by the Fund, which has requested new bids by April 17. CMC expects to rebid on the Sisak mill.

According to CMI, a total of six bids have been made for the Split mill.

It marked the first time such a wide selection of U2 memorabilia was available to collectors, organizers said.

Why the Eastern Upper Peninsula likes Bart

WASHINGTON - Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) received the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association's (NTCA) Congressional Leadership Award for his work on telecommunications issues. Stupak said that he was pleased to receive the award and would continue to fight for rural residents' access to telecommunications. "Advanced telecommunications and broadband in rural areas can be the great equalizer, by ensuring rural communities enjoy the same important services as urban areas enjoy," Stupak said. "We are making progress in rolling out broadband services in rural communities, but we still have a lot of ground to cover."Last Congress, Stupak authored a bipartisan amendment aimed at protecting the Universal Service Fund (USF), a fund that pays for telephone service in rural areas.
