Wells shutting down race team after seven years

Unable to compete in the current climate that is Nextel Cup racing, Cal Wells III has apparently decided to liquidate his operation. Sentman Auctions of Indiana, which specializes in racing auctions, will be auctioning off the assets of the No. 32 team beginning Wednesday at the shop in Hickory, N.C.

The machine shop equipment is scheduled to placed up for bid on the first day, to be followed by the fabrication shop items on Thursday and then main race shop and office equipment. Also on the block: a 2001 American Eagle motorcoach and fifth-wheel trailer.

"Theres everything here from nuts to bolts to race cars to trailers," said Charlie Sentman, a former racer who has been auctioning off racing equipment for over 45 years. "Theres a real nice motorhome.

"If you dont have a complete race team, you can complete it here, I guarantee you."

The auction flyer lists eight complete cars -- one superspeedway, four intermediate and three short-track versions -- plus a pair of show cars and a pit practice car.

Tall order: Miniatures make their presence felt at art auctions

KOLKATA: As anticipated some time back, prices of Indian miniatures are on the rise. What is noticeable in almost all recent auctions is that prices of miniatures are shooting past pre-sale estimates (minimum reserve price) by 2-10 times. On an average, the reserve levels have been surpassed by four to five times. "This shows the revival of interest among art lovers in various miniature schools. It holds true for miniatures auctioned at Christie's, Sotheby's and Bonhams and also at auctions in India. This is driving home the fact that together with modern and contemporary art — which have shown fabulous price levels —, other art genres can also gain popularity. It also underscores that art lovers have begun to focus on Indian art as a spread, and buying what interests them. Besides, since artworks like miniatures were lying at relatively low-price points, they harbour a lot of scope for further rise," an art market source said.

SIMPSON BOOK RIGHTS TO BE AUCTIONED

LATEST: The rights to O.J. SIMPSON's scrapped book IF I DID IT is to be auctioned off next month (APR07). Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge GERALD ROSENBERG earlier this month (MAR07) ordered the rights to If I Did It - which hypothetically places Simpson at the scene of the 1994 murder of his ex-wife NICOLE BROWN SIMPSON and her friend RON GOLDMAN - be sold. Details of the sale have been sent to publishers, Hollywood studios and talent agencies, according to Goldman family attorney DAVID COOK, who hinted the family may also bid for the controversial manuscript. Rosenberg previously ruled if the book is ever published, proceeds must help pay off the $33.5 million (GBP17 million) Simpson owes following a 1997 civil case for wrongful death. The sale will take place on 17 April (07), and will be carried out by the Sacramento County Sheriff's department in California.
